Packard's sac fly gives Gatemen a win

WAREHAM -- Bryant Packard scored Isaac Collins with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth, boosting Wareham to a 3-2 walk-off win over Harwich at Clem Spillane Field.

Collins worked a one-out walk, moved to third on a double by Andrew Vaugh and came home on Packard’s sac fly to left field.

Harwich's Andrew Lipcius (Tennessee) tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the eight inning with an RBI double to bring in Zachary Watson (LSU).

Austin Shenton (Florida Intl.) had three hits in his first four at-bats for Wareham (2-0).

Parker Phillips (Austin Peay) gave Wareham a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the second inning. He also made it 2-1 by scoring on an error in the fourth inning.

Harwich's Gabriel Rivera (Miami) tied it at 1 in the third with an RBI single to score Ben Norman (Iowa), who had two hits in his first three at-bats.

Dominic Savino (Albany) earned the win for the Gateman, allowing just one hit while striking out two through 1.2 innings. Ken Waldichuk (St. Mary’s) limited Harwich (1-1) to one run on four hits, striking out seven through the first four innings for Wareham.

Vaughn and Austin Shenton (Florida International) each had three hits for the Gatemen, while Tanner Morris (Virginia) and Norman had two each for the Mariners.

CALLED OFF: Three of the five Cape League games scheduled for Wednesday were called off to due to threatening weather. Bourne’s game at Cotuit was called off, as well as the Hyannis at Falmouth and Brewster at Orleans games.
