Girls basketball: D-Y upsets CCA; Nauset, Sandwich win at home

OSTERVILLE – Shelby Dunn had 14 points, 4 steals and 4 assists to help Dennis-Yarmouth’s girls basketball team knock off Cape Cod Academy, 44-33, on Tuesday afternoon.

Dennis-Yarmouth (3-16) broke the Cape Cod Academy press and moved the ball well, getting the ball inside to Kim Murray, Noel Criser and Lucy Agurkis.

Murray had 11 points, 9 rebounds and 7 steals, while Agurkis and Criser had 7 rebounds each. Criser also chipped in 8 points.

Lindsay Schoener led Cape Cod Academy (10-9) with 17 points, with four 3-pointers, while Marena Gardella had 7 points and Sarah Dumaresq had 6.

Sandwich 41, Falmouth 33: Caroline Wilson scored 9 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter to help the Blue Knights pull away for an Atlantic Coast League win in East Sandwich.

Wilson scored 8 of her points in the first half as Sandwich (7-10, 3-5 ACL) took a slim 20-18 lead to halftime.

Calie Sorenson added 7 points for the Blue Knights, while Leah Mahoney and Maggie Nardini added 6 points each.

Skylar Gonsalves and Kayla Thomas led Falmouth (9-8, 4-4 ACL) with 8 points each, while Ariana Silvia had 7 points and Emily Nelson had 5.

Nauset 44, Bourne 27: The Warriors used a 22-0 run between the second and third quarters to overtake the Canalmen on Senior Night in North Eastham.

Nauset (13-2) scored three unanswered points to end the half, closing within 18-13 at the break. The Warriors then opened the second half with a 19-0 run and continued to pull away after that.

Skyeler Sandison scored 7 of her team-leading 9 points in the third quarter, while Avery Burns got all 6 of her points on a pair of 3-pointers, also in the third quarter.

Korin Mereste chipped in 7 points for Nauset, which got strong play from seniors Kiley Vitale, Isabel Pellegrini and Emma Shackelford.

Kaya Fernandes led Bourne (9-9) with 6 points each, while Charlotte Orth, Brooke McCallum and Emma Leach scored 4 each.

Nantucket 46, Monomoy 22: The Whalers used strong team defense in handing the Sharks a Cape & Islands League loss on the island.

Nantucket (16-3, 14-1 C&I) can clinch a tie for the league title with Falmouth Academy with a win over Sturgis East on Friday.

Jadelen Harold led the Whalers with 17 points and 7 offensive rebounds. Malika Phillip added 9 points, 4 steals and 3 blocks and Moneak Phillip had 7 points and 8 steals.

Maddie Leonard led Monomoy (7-11, 6-7 C&I) with 8 points, while Maggie Dever had 5.

Nantucket led, 20-14, at halftime.

Southeastern 68, Upper Cape 38: Lacy Butland scored 14 points in a non-league loss for the Rams against the Hawks in South Easton.

McKenna Vary added 9 points, as she and Butland both hit a pair of 3-pointers. Hannah Grassi chipped in 5 points for Upper Cape (2-17).

St. John Paul II 40, Cape Cod Academy 32: The Lions battled back with a big third quarter to overtake the Seahawks for a Cape & Islands win at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center on Monday night.

Melissa Van Cott scored 6 of her 8 points in the third quarter and Katie Wojciechowski added 5 of her game-high 14 as St. John Paul II (9-8, 9-5 C&I) outscored Cape Cod Academy (10-8, 8-7 C&I), 19-7.

Lindsay Schoener (8 points) and Sasha Rivers (6 points) both hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first half to help the Seahawks take a 21-15 lead to the break.
