NEW SEABURY - Daniel Brendan Goggin died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of April 12, 2018 on Cape Cod. He was a true gentleman, and his smile, sense of humor, strength and kindness will be missed by many.

Born in Malden, MA, raised in Somerville, MA, he was the third child of the late Patrick Joseph Goggin and Elizabeth O'Callahan Goggin. His older brothers Thomas and Patrick and his sister Mary predeceased him.

He graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1954, where he excelled academically and was a star athlete. He earned 12 varsity letters in football, hockey and baseball. In 1990, he was inducted into the Malden Catholic Athletic Hall of Fame.

Dan matriculated at Dartmouth College, where he again excelled in the classroom and on the ice. Dan set hockey scoring standards that still stand to this day. During his junior and senior year, he completed the Officers Training Course, preparing to serve his country.

Upon graduation from Dartmouth with a BA in Economics in 1957, Dan joined the United States Marine Corps. He earned his wings at Pensacola FL, and he flew the F8 Crusader fighter jet for three years, earning the rank of Captain.

After his service for our country, he was admitted to the Amos Tuck Business School at Dartmouth, where he was elected class president. He graduated in 1962 with a Masters of Business degree in Finance.

Dan and Constance J. Cummings were married on February 6, 1960. Connie was the love of his life, and they were married for 58 years. He loved Connie and treated her with warmth and affection to the end. They raised their boys in Chelmsford before moving full-time to New Seabury on Cape Cod. They loved to travel throughout the US and abroad. They wintered in Naples, FL for 15 years upon Dan's retirement.

After earning his Certified Public Account designation, Dan worked at Ernst and Whinney before joining Boston Mutual. Dan served as Boston Mutual's Chief Financial Officer, and he served on the Board of Directors. Dan retired in 2003, having worked at Boston Mutual for 35 years.

Dan was passionate about sharing his gifts with his community. He always said yes when asked to serve. He led the Chelmsford Youth Hockey Association for many years, and he also coached high school hockey. He served as a founding partner of the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod. He was on the New Seabury Board of Directors, was the New Seabury CC Golf Chairman for many years, supporting the membership in every way possible. He was a key figure on Francis Ouimet Caddy Scholarship Fund at both Vesper CC and New Seabury CC. He served on the Mashpee, MA finance committee for two terms. Lastly, he was a lifelong loyal Dartmouth College alumnus, serving as president of the Merrimack Valley Dartmouth Alumni Association. Dan interviewed thousands of High School juniors interested in attending Dartmouth, and he especially enjoyed awarding scholarships to deserving candidates and watching them excel. Dan loved seeing his friends at reunions and was president of his 25th Reunion Committee.

He began to play golf at Vesper Country Club in the 70's, and grew to love the game. Later in life, upon retirement, Dan could be seen at the New Seabury Country Club, driving a golf cart, with his grandchildren aboard, smiling ear to ear. He taught his sons and his grandsons how to caddy. He taught all of his grandchildren how to play golf, and more importantly, how to respect the game.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years Connie Goggin, his three sons and their 11 grandchildren: Daniel B. Goggin Jr. and his wife Sheila of Old Greenwich, CT, their children Daniel III, Justine, Jennifer and Robert; Mark C. Goggin and his wife Sally of Glen Ellyn, IL, their children Connor and his wife Lane, Mark Jr. and Cassie; Garrett D. Goggin and his wife Jennifer of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, their children Andrew, Christopher, Jack and Aine.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm-7:00pm Friday, April 20, 2018 in the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Avenue (RTE 151), Mashpee, MA 02649. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:30am at Christ the King Parish, 3 Job's Fishing Road, Mashpee, MA 02649.
