MARSTONS MILLS - Nancy C. Fortnam (Crooker), 81, died peacefully at home in Marston Mills on January 7, 2018.

She was born in Quincy to William and Stella Crooker. She married Allan Fortnam (deceased 2010) in 1960, and they raised four boys together: Philip of Phoenix, Daniel of Marstons Mills, Michael of Marstons Mills, and James of Bethel, CT. She has four grandchildren: Kelsey, Katie, Abraham, and Alicia. Nancy was adored by her extended family which included daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was also admired and highly respected by her friends and co-workers throughout her career. She will be remembered by all the people she touched as kind, patient, witty, humorous, and intelligent.

Nancy graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Boston in 1958. She worked in hospitals prior to the Visiting Nurse Association, where for more than 30 years, she crisscrossed the South Shore before retiring to Cape Cod. She loved the closeness that came with knowing her patients in their own homes. She was an outspoken advocate for her patients and a proponent of high ethical standards for nurses and everyone in healthcare.

Nancy loved walking the cranberry bogs near her home, bird watching, reading, needlepoint, current events, and being a trusted confidant. Her compassionate understanding, acceptance, wisdom, counsel, intellect, and irreverence will be dearly missed.

There will a celebration of her life on the Cape this summer with details to be announced here.
