OSTERVILLE - Irena Baskys Jansonas of Osterville, passed away on November 11, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Irena was the daughter of Lithuanian General Petras Kubiliunas and Irena Kubiliunas and sister to Edmund Kubiliunas. She is survived by her three children: Nijole Lapsys, Donatas and Rasa Baskys, and Julius and Kelly Baskys. She has three loving grandchildren: Audra Lapsys, Nida Wilson, and Darius Baskys, as well as four great-grandchildren: Julia and Jenna Brady, along with Elyana and Tyler Wilson.
Irena was born in Taurage, Lithuania on December 25, 1921. She lived in various towns in Lithuania until finally settling in Kaunas, where she attended University. During WWII, she escaped Russian occupation of Lithuania, and sought refuge in Hamburg, Germany at the United States displaced persons camp. She completed her Doctorate in Dentistry in Germany, while awaiting sponsorship to immigrate to America.
It was there she met her future husband, Dr. Bronius Baskys. They were married in Germany, and finally found their way to the U.S., where they began a family. They established roots in South Boston, and eventually Dorchester, until her husband's premature passing in 1965.
Irena was left with a new mortgage and three small children. She worked tirelessly and completely selflessly to raise and support her family with help from her mother. Her children can never repay this debt and act of love.
Irena was remarried in 1974, to Dr. Eduardas Jansonas of Osterville, MA, and lived with great happiness for the next 20 years, until he was tragically killed in an auto accident.
Irena was a vibrant member of the Lithuanian community and treasured her close lunch group friends, including; Dana Balta, Irena Mickunas, Regina Petrutis, Regina Dabkus, Vida Morris and Nijole Uzpurvis.
Most of all, Irena loved her children and extended family, and took ultimate joy in the multitude of visits and summer vacations that were all centered around spending time with her.
She will be deeply missed.
