WEST YARMOUTH - Janis Cook Vicente passed on peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich.

She was 58 years old and a native of Provincetown who worked at her family owned restaurant (Cookies) while growing up. She attended Provincetown High School and after graduating she then continued on to the Blaine Hair School in Hyannis.

Once Janis became a licensed hair stylist she worked many years at Peter Tompkins Hair Deezines. She also was a waitress at the Mayflower Restaurant and tended bar at the Governor Bradford while living in town.

In the late 90's she moved to West Yarmouth with her family and worked at Care A Lot Preschool in Dennis; but she always said "My heart will always be in Provincetown".

She loved the beach, gardening, bird watching, crafting and especially adored all of her pets! She was also a great cook, loved to make old family recipes and was known for being able to use whatever was in her pantry to make her famous 'Garbage Soup'. Janis also very much enjoyed Halloween and decorating and making costumes. She had a great sense of humor and lightheartedness which she got from her parents, the late Wilbur and Ruth Cook.

In addition to her partner Chuck McCormick she leaves behind her daughters Mianne Cook, Gina Vicente and her very special grandson Damian who she lovingly called "Puddinpop". She is also survived by her sisters Sandy Silva of North Truro and Cindy Glaspell of Shady Cove Oregon as well as many nieces and nephews.

A graveside ceremony will be held at St Peter's Cemetery on Jerome Smith Rd in Provincetown on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janis's memory to the McCarthy Care Center, 73 Service Rd in East Sandwich, MA 02537 or online www.HopeHealthCo.org and the MSPCA Cape Cod Shelter, c/o Guardian Fund, 1577 Falmouth Rd, Centerville, MA 02632 or online www.MSPCA.org/guardian.
