(Dec. 6, 2018) Nantucket High School and Cyrus Peirce Middle School students were evacuated from their classrooms this morning after smoke in the cafeteria kitchen set off fire alarms.

The following statement was released by the school system this morning:

"At 8:28 this morning our NHS/CPS Cafeteria kitchen experienced some smoke which set off a detector in the cafeteria. Students were evacuated from the building and assembled on the playing fields behind the school. Our evacuation procedures were followed by staff and students perfectly, ensuring that students were orderly and safe at all times. The Nantucket Fire Department arrived and within 10 minutes determined that the building was safe to return. Students returned to their first block class at 8:39 a.m."
