ORLEANS — An Acton man was placed on 18 months probation Wednesday in Orleans District Court after pleading guilty to multiple drug charges after more than 200 grams of various drugs was found in a truck he was in that crashed in July in Eastham.

Dante Vara, 25, entered a guilty plea to charges of possession of a class B drug, possession of fentanyl, possession of amphetamine, and possession of a class E drug, according to court documents.

As part of the plea agreement, Vara will be on probation through June 4, 2020, with drug screening and substance abuse counseling, the documents say.

Vara was the passenger in a truck driven by Scott Douglass, 30, of Rehoboth at 12:32 p.m. on July 4 when the white pickup traveled across all four lanes of Route 6 in Eastham, according to Eastham police. When police arrived at the crash, a witness told them that the Ford F-150 pickup had started crossing the busy highway at the Eastham tourist information booth and that Douglass appeared to be unconscious as the truck moved, according to a police report.

Douglass’ case is ongoing in Orleans District Court. He faces charges of possession of a class B drug, distribution of a class A drug, distribution of a class B drug, distribution of a class E drug and operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs, court documents say. He is scheduled to return to court Dec. 28 for a pretrial hearing.
