FALMOUTH — A Falmouth man pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Falmouth District Court to several charges in connection with a June crash and with drugs that were found in his possession, according to court documents.

Michael Merlino, 48, was charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop or yield, violation of marked lanes and possession of class E drugs, according to court documents.

A summons was issued for Merlino on Sept. 25, followed by a warrant three days later, according to court documents. He was arraigned Tuesday and released on personal recognizance.

On June 24, Falmouth police found and overturned car on the beach at the intersection of Menauhant Road and Central Avenue , according to a police report.

Merlino had no visible cuts or bruises other than some minor scratches on his hand, the report says.

In the ambulance, police located Merlino’s backpack, which had a clear bag with 22 assorted pills inside, the report says.

The crash caused damage to two signs, snapped a utility pole in half, and damaged a large number of plants.

Merlino is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing on Dec. 10.
