Some shellfish areas around the Cape and Islands that were closed Thursday in anticipation of heavy rainfall will reopen at sunrise Saturday with others to follow Monday, according to a statement from the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries.

The waters around the Elizabeth Islands, Cape Cod Bay, the Outer Cape, south of Cape Cod and certain areas in Nantucket Sound will be reopened Saturday, the statement says.

Shellfishing in the waters off Nantucket, including Nantucket Harbor and Polpis Harbor, along with the waters surrounding Martha’s Vineyard and all ponds will remained closed to shellfishing until sunrise Monday, the statement says.

During the closure, no shellfish may be harvested or removed from the site for culling, except for conchs and scallop abductor muscles, according to the statement.
