(July 12, 2018) “One man’s trash is another mans treasure,” or so the old idiom goes. Cisco Brewers has taken that quite literally. Inspired by its sister brewery, Kona Brewing in Hawaii, Cisco for the last three summers has invited creative islanders to make a runway-worthy outfit out of nothing but trash found along Nantucket’s shores.
“The idea behind the Cisco Trashion Show was seeded four years ago on a trip to Hawaii while visiting our friends and partner brewers at Kona Brewing Company. Kona hosts a Trash Fashion show as part of their annual Island Brewers Festival. As a strong partner to Kona, the most western brewery in the U.S., Cisco felt it could make a difference by talking trash on Nantucket, as the most eastern brewery in the U.S.,” co-owner Jay Harman said.
Cisco, in partnership with Nantucket blACKbook, hosted its third annual Cisco Trashion Show Tuesday afternoon at the Bartlett Farm Road brewery. Models, styled by R.J. Miller and Darya Salon, walked down the catwalk to music provided by DJ Lay-Z-Boy and Braun Dapper.
The overall goal of show is not only to showcase the island’s creativity, but to spotlight the ever-growing problem of litter on Nantucket.
