TRURO — Residents are invited to comment through July 12 on Truro’s request for a federal permit for maintenance dredging of the Pamet River boat channel, according to a statement from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
As part of the project, dredged sand would be used for beach nourishment north of the mouth of the channel, the statement says.
The dredging, last conducted in 2014, would be completed by hydraulic and mechanical means. Over the course of 10 years, different areas of the channel may be dredged to reach and maintain the targeted navigation depth of 6 feet below mean low water, according to the notice. Some loss of fish habitat may occur, but the Army Corps has made a preliminary determination that the adverse effect will not be substantial, the notice states.
