(June 21, 2018) As Justify approached the final turn at the Belmont Stakes with the lead Saturday, Sol Kumin sat uncharacteristically quiet in the owners’ box. Usually the 43-year-old summer resident is jumping up and down and screaming as a horse he owns thunders toward the finish line.

But this time was different. Justify was about to become the 13th Triple Crown winner in history, and only the second to accomplish horseracing’s ultimate feat since 1980. Kumin realized he was witnessing history.

“I was nervous, but I got emotional, which was surprising,” he said.“When he was crossing the line, I started to tear up. I was with my kids so I held it together. My daughter was on my lap, my boys were next to me and I didn’t even scream, I just hugged them all.”
