WELLFLEET — A 93-year-old Longmeadow woman remained in the hospital Wednesday in stable condition after a two-vehicle collision Tuesday afternoon on Route 6.

Jean Sullivan was a passenger in the 2004 Chevy Impala driven by East Longmeadow resident Elaine Hinckley, 88, who also was brought to Cape Cod Hospital, where she was treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life hydraulic tool to remove Hinckley from her car, according to a Fire Department official.

Reported at 2:51 p.m. near 2207 Route 6, the collision of the Impala with a school bus slowed traffic and led to a temporary closure of one lane of the two-lane highway, police said. The Nauset Public Schools school bus, operated by First Student Inc., was empty of students, and driver William Brooks, 67, of Wellfleet, was not injured.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
