WAREHAM — A Bourne man was arrested Wednesday night for drunken driving and carrying a loaded handgun after a crash on Onset Avenue, police said.
Officers responded at about 9:15 p.m. to the area of 23 Onset Ave. and learned that one of the drivers, Christopher Ardita, 45, had gone into a wooded area after the crash and returned before police arrived, according to a statement from Acting Police Chief John Walcek.
Police determined that Ardita’s vehicle crossed the center line and struck another vehicle and he also showed signs of intoxication, the statement says. Ardita was arrested and officers checked the wooded area, where one of them found a fully loaded handgun registered to Ardita.
The gun was confiscated and secured and Ardita was brought to the Wareham Police Station for booking, the statement says.
Ardita is charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to operate within marked lanes, improper storage of a firearm and carrying a firearm while intoxicated, police said.
