Concert to benefit education foundation
The Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School student jazz band will perform its “Leaving Campus” concert at 7 p.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church of Yarmouth, Route 6A in Yarmouth Port.
Concertgoers are invited to make free-will offerings to benefit the Educational Foundation for Dennis and Yarmouth.
Community school sign-up underway
Online registration has begun for the Falmouth Community School’s spring and summer semester.

Walk-in registration will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 23-27. Mailed registrations should be sent to the Falmouth Community School, 113 Lakeview Ave., Falmouth, MA 02540.
Telephone registration may be made with a credit card by calling 508-548-5739 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. April 23-27 or between 6 and 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning May 1 until class is full.
Faxed registrations will be accepted from April 23 with credit card information. The fax number is 508-495-2854.
Talk to focus on importance of play
An expert on the importance of play, Nancy Carlsson-Paige — who also is the mother of actor Matt Damon — will be a guest speaker April 24 at St. Peter’s Nursery School in Osterville.
Carlsson-Paige will talk from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on “The Importance of Play: Taking Back Childhood.”
The school is located at 421 Wianno Ave. The cost is $20 per person.

Scholarships offered for speech pathology
Cape Cod Speech-Language Pathologists is offering a $500 scholarship to a student who graduated from a high school on the Cape and Islands and is pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in the field of speech pathology.
The applications are due June 30, and scholarships are given to recipients in August.

Lego building contest to be held Sunday
The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Cape Cod is holding its fifth annual Children’s Lego homebuilding competition from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Mashpee Middle-High School, 500 Old Barnstable Road.
Registration will take place from 1 to 1:30 p.m. to be followed by building competition, Bubbleology show with Keith Michael Johnson and judging. The cost of competing is $25 per builder and includes one accompanying adult. Guests pay $5 for admission.
The contest is divided into two age groups: 5 to 8 years and 9 to 12 years.

Poetry contest winners to read their work
Winners of the Voices of Peace poetry contest will read their work at an awards ceremony from 10 a.m. to noon April 28 at South Congregational Church in Centerville. The contest, sponsored by Veterans for Peace, Cpl. Jeffrey M. Lucey Chapter 041, drew 698 submissions from 26 schools.
