ORLEANS — A 28-year-old Wellfleet woman who was accused of stabbing a man in the back and puncturing his lung Monday night was ordered held on $5,000 bail Tuesday in Orleans District Court.

Michelle Corrigan pleaded not guilty in court to assault and battery with serious bodily injury.

At about 7:35 p.m. Monday, police and fire officials were called to a home at 2591 Route 6, according to a police report. When they arrived they found a 33-year-old man on his hands and knees bleeding heavily from his back, the report says.

The victim and a witness at the house told police that Corrigan and a friend had stopped by the house to drop off a jacket and a cellphone when a fight broke out, police wrote.

The victim was brought to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. He was treated and later released from the hospital.

Police later found Corrigan and her friend at Blackfish Variety Convenience Store, where they were evaluated by the fire department.

Corrigan said they were returning a few items when the fight broke out and the victim punched and kicked her and her friend, police wrote. Corrigan then said that she stabbed the victim with a small knife she keeps in her car, according to the report. She was then arrested, the report says.

Corrigan is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on March 13.
