Josh Richards of West Yarmouth has been named the first executive director at Sail Cape Cod, according to a statement from the Hyannis-based nonprofit organization.
The native Cape Codder has done professional and volunteer work with local young professionals, the disability community and underserved youth populations, according to the statement. He serves on the board of the Community Leadership Institute, the advisory board of Cape Cod Regional Technical High School and the organizing committee for the Shape the Cape summit held by Cape Cod Young Professionals, of which he is a member.
Since 2012, Sail Cape Cod has worked to provide access to all without limitation as a community sailing organization affiliated with U.S. Sailing, according to the statement. It has developed the SeaLegs Adaptive Sailing Program, which helps all individuals gain access to sailing, regardless of their physical ability. It also offers community Learn to Sail programs, providing the opportunity for all Cape Codders and visitors to gain the skills and confidence needed to successfully sail on local waters.
